Reforestation Crisis in BC

Anthony Britneff, a retired forester writes in the magazine of the Association of BC Forest Professionals on the subject in a well researched article.  See article at :

Most of the responsibility for reforesting in BC was passed to forest companies with harvesting rights. Forest companies are required to reforest after harvesting. Huge areas require reforesting after the mountain pine beetle epidemic. Forest companies are not required to reforest these areas and the central BC Government is not stepping up to do the job.

The present arrangements for forest stewardship are derelict. It is time to look at a devolved system of forest stewardship under local forest trusts with full forest stewardship responsibilities for local forest landscapes
